How to restrict where your sponsored content appears — by URL, keyword, or location.

What is Targeting?

Targeting lets you restrict where a sponsorship proposal is shown — by specific page URLs, SEO keywords, or geographic locations. It is an optional step in the proposal creation flow. If no targeting is added, the proposal shows everywhere the SDK is loaded.

Available to both sides. Targeting can be configured by the publisher brand from Monetize, or the advertiser brand from Grow. The same logic and options apply in both directions.

The Three Targeting Dimensions

Step 1 — Navigate to the Targeting section

Targeting appears as an optional step during proposal creation — in both Monetize and Grow flows. If you skip it and click Next, the proposal proceeds with no targeting restrictions applied.

Step 2 — Add Page URLs

Enter one or more URLs where you want the proposal to appear. Multiple URLs can be added at the same time.

  • Any type of prefix is treated as the same domain — www.google.com and google.com resolve identically
  • Duplicate URLs are automatically removed on save

Step 3 — Add Keywords

Enter SEO keywords that must be present on the page for the proposal to show. Multiple keywords can be added at the same time.

Important: Each keyword must be confirmed by pressing Enter before saving. Keywords typed but not confirmed with Enter are not saved.

Step 4 — Add Location

Select a country first — this unlocks the state field. Select a state to unlock the city field. Leaving state or city as All targets the entire country or state respectively.

  • Select country only → proposal shows across the entire country
  • Select country + state → proposal shows only in that state
  • Select country + state + city → proposal shows only in that city

Required field: Once you add a location dimension, a country must be selected before you can proceed to the next step.

AND / OR Logic

Across the three dimensions (URL, Keyword, Location), the relationship can be switched between AND and OR — the proposal shows if any one condition is met.

Within the Keyword dimension only, you can switch between AND and OR.

However, the AND option is currently disabled in both cases and is planned to be available in the future.

ScenarioBehaviour
URL + Keyword (across dimensions)Shows if the URL matches or the keyword is present — either condition is enough
Two keywords with ORShows if either keyword is present on the page
Two keywords with ANDBoth keywords must be present on the page for the proposal to show
No targeting addedShows everywhere the SDK is loaded — no restrictions

Updating Targeting on Acceptance via GROW

When the receiving brand accepts a proposal, a pop-up appears showing the current targeting rules. They can remove, edit, or replace any targeting dimension before confirming. The final accepted targeting is what applies to the scheduled proposal.

Step 1 — Acceptance pop-up with targeting

If the proposal includes targeting, the acceptance pop-up displays the existing rules. The receiver can modify these before confirming — for example, replacing a URL or adding a location restriction not in the original proposal.

Step 2 — Targeting locks at Live state

Once a proposal moves from Scheduled to Live, the Targeting section becomes read-only. No further changes can be made.

Plan your targeting before the campaign goes live — once the proposal reaches Live state, targeting cannot be updated.

Targeting Inside Rectification

Targeting can be added or updated as part of the Rectification flow. If a proposal was originally created without any targeting, the receiving brand can add URL, keyword, or location restrictions inside Rectify Terms and send it back.

Step 1 — Add targeting during rectification

Inside the rectification edit screen, scroll to the Targeting section. If it was empty in the original proposal, it appears as an empty optional section. Add any dimension here and it will be included in the rectification sent back to the original sender.

Send Rectification is only enabled when at least one change has been made. If you open Rectify Terms and don't modify any field — including Targeting — the Send Rectification button stays disabled.
